The coin

What is it made of, and how big is it?

Solid brass, 40 mm across and 3 mm thick Thickness to confirm. Your design is engraved into one face as a 3D relief; the back is plain.

What's a relief, and which depth should I pick?

A relief is a design carved into the surface so it stands out in light and shadow, like the face of a coin. Deeper carving throws stronger shadows and takes longer on the laser.

  • Low relief: up to 0.25 mm deep, about 1 h on the laser, $30.
  • Medium relief: up to 0.40 mm deep, about 1 h 30 min on the laser, $40.
  • High relief: up to 1.20 mm deep, about 2 h on the laser, $50.

Not sure? Start with medium relief and switch while you look at the 3D preview.

Can I get a pendant?

Yes: the same 40 mm coin with a 1/8 in hole at the top center, worn on a chain or a leather cord. The assistant keeps the area around the hole plain. Whether the chain or cord is included: To be confirmed

Will the brass tarnish?

Brass darkens slowly with handling and air, which many people like. How fast depends on the finish. We’re trying out polished, antiqued, satin and aged finishes, and each will come with its own care note. Finishes to confirm

Designing

How does the design assistant work?

You describe what you want in plain words. The assistant asks a question or two, confirms any wording, and makes a design. You see it as a 3D brass relief and ask for changes until you’re happy. Every revision is kept.

It’s an AI assistant (Claude, made by Anthropic), steered toward designs that read well in metal.

Can I put words, names or dates on it?

Yes. The assistant confirms the exact wording with you first, then checks the lettering on every revision and redoes any that are misspelled. Short legends work best: very small letters blur at 40 mm, and the assistant will tell you when text is too long. Minimum letter height: From test burns

Can I upload a photo or a logo?

Not yet. For now, describe it to the assistant. Businesses can send a link to their logo with a quote request.

How many revisions can I make?

The first 3 revisions of each design are free. Revisions that fail, or that the assistant sets aside because a word came out misspelled, don’t count. After that, one $5 deposit covers as many more revisions of that design as you like, and it comes off your order. If you don’t order, it covers the design work and isn’t refunded.

Will the finished coin look like the preview?

The preview uses the same depths the laser cuts, at true size, so the shapes are what you’ll get. Color and shine are close to real brass but not exact: real metal looks a little different in every light.

Ordering and pricing

How do bulk discounts work?

The discount depends on the total number of pieces in the order, across every design, and comes off every piece:

  • 5 or more pieces: 10% off
  • 25 or more pieces: 20% off

Orders over 50 pieces are quoted by hand: request a quote.

How do quotes work?

For more than 50 pieces, a logo to match or a fixed deadline, send us a quote request. Our workshop replies within 2 days with a price, a 3D proof and a ship date. You accept the quote on its page and pay in full online, through the same secure checkout as any order.

Buying for resale? Send your resale certificate with the request, and your quoted order is charged without sales tax.

When will my order ship?

You see an estimated ship date before you pay. It’s worked out from the engraving already in the queue plus your pieces, at up to 14 laser hours a day, plus a day to pack. We ship Monday to Saturday. If the date moves, we email you.

How do I pay?

Through Stripe’s secure checkout, for quoted orders too. We never see your card details. Prices are in US dollars; sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, until engraving starts: change the design, depth, finish or quantity, or cancel for a full refund. We email you when your first piece goes on the laser; from then on the order is final. See refunds and cancellations.

What if it arrives damaged, or doesn't arrive?

Tell us within 14 days of delivery, with a photo, and we’ll remake the piece or refund it, your pick. The same goes for lost packages. Because every piece is made for you, we can’t take returns for a change of mind, which is why you see and approve the 3D preview before you pay.

Shipping

Where do you ship?

To all 50 states and Washington, DC. We don’t ship to US territories or APO/FPO addresses yet. We check your ZIP code before you pay.

How much is shipping, and how do I track it?

Shipping is the USPS Ground Advantage rate for your package, worked out at checkout from its weight and where it’s going. Every order ships with tracking, and we email you the link.

What we’ll engrave

What can I put on a coin?

Almost anything. Our default answer is yes: pets, people, places, logos, characters, inside jokes.

When you order, you confirm you have the right to use any names, logos or likenesses in your design.

What won't you make?

Anything illegal, and anything our image service or our payment provider doesn’t allow, such as sexual content involving minors or credible threats.

The image service sometimes declines requests on its own, for example realistic portraits of some real people. When it does, the assistant will suggest another way to get close.

Can you turn down an order?

Yes, before engraving starts, for example if a design falls outside these rules. If we do, we refund it in full. The whole policy: what we’ll engrave.
